Our Micellar formulations

Nano-technology is rapidly emerging as the most promising means of formulating stable and effective topical skincare treatments. Nano-sized micelle formulations are technically challenging to develop but offer significant advantages over traditional cosmetic formulation types.

At Micellar Skincare™ we have developed our own proprietary Green Micelle™ formulation system using advanced nano-technology. This allows us to encapsulate and protect sensitive biologically active ingredients in nano-sized micelles. These nano-sized micelles are more stable and can penetrate deeper into the skin layers than traditional macro skincare formulations.

Superior product formulation stability and deeper skin penetration are provided by our nano-sized micelle formulations.

Micelles Explained

Micelles consist of rings of molecules surrounding active ingredients in a water or oil droplets based solution.  The most common type of micelle formula is oil entrapped by micelle molecules in a water solution. Micelle Water products use this type of formulation where oil micelles are used to cleanse oil-soluble dirt and grime.

Serums and creams can use micelles where micelle rings protect and transport active ingredients to the skin surface. Depending on the formulation method, these micelles will vary in size. Traditional cream and lotion formulas typically have micelles with 1-100 micrometer (µm) diameter.

Scientifically, the smaller the micelle diameter, the more stable the micelle formula and the more effective are the micelles at penetrating the skin outer layers.

Our nano-sized micelles

Micelle diameter size varies significantly across different cosmetic formulation types. Traditional cosmetic creams and lotions contain micelles that range in diameter from 1-100 micrometers(µm). To put this into perspective, this is about the diameter of an average human hair.

Our proprietary Green Micelle™ formulation system creates nano-sized micelles which are much smaller than those found in traditional creams and lotions. We used advanced scientific instrumentation to measure the diameter of micelles produced by our Green Micelle™ nano-tech formulation system (see analysis results attached).

Our micellar-based skincare products have a micelle diameter that is one thousandth the size of traditionally formulated cosmetic creams and lotions and one thousandth the diameter of a human hair.

Micellar stability

The stability of all cosmetic formulations is closely related to particle size of the underlying formulation. Scientifically, the smaller the micelle size, the more stable the formulation.

Traditional creams and lotions are white in colour due to their large micelle size of 1-100µm.

Our Micellar Skincare™ products have micelles that are one thousand times smaller than traditional creams and lotions.  Our serums have a bluish tinge and are translucent (see attached photo) due to their much smaller micelle size of about 30nm.

Our Green Micelle™ produced micellar skincare products are more thermodynamically stable in formulation compared to traditional lotions and creams. This means they do not breakdown over time and cause less degradation of biologically active ingredients.

Skin penetration

The effectiveness of topical skincare products is related to their ability to penetrate the skin’s outermost protective layer, the stratum corneum (SC). This layer serves to protect our skin from harmful ingredient penetration and water loss. It forms a very effective barrier to penetration for most products. Many poorly formulated cosmetic creams and lotions cannot penetrate the SC and their active ingredients remain on the skin’s surface to be later washed off.

Research shows that the smaller the micelle size of a cosmetic formulation, the greater the ability to penetrate the SC. Our Micellar Skincare™ formulations are unique in that they consist of nano-sized micelles (30nm) which are far more effective in penetrating the SC than traditional creams and lotions.

Green Micelle™ Skincare

Our Green Micelle™ nano-micelle formulation is much more than just a nano-encapsulation system. Using scientific research and innovation, we developed our nano-micelle formulation system using only coconut derived products with no synthetic emulsifiers (PEGs and ethoxylates). All formulation components are natural, organic, sustainable and biodegradable.
